One month Deandre rented 3 movies and 5 video games for a total of $40. The next month he rented 9 movies and 7 video games for a total of $74. Find the rental cost for each movie and each video game.

3m +5v = 40

9m +7v = 74

multiply 1st equation by 3 and subtract 2nd equation to get

8v = 46

v = $5.75 per video

m = 40 -5(5.75) all divided by 3 = (40- 28.75)/3= 11.25/3 = $3.75 per movie

check the answers 9(3.75) + 7(5.75) = 33.75 + 40.25 = 74 '
