Hi there! Distributive property is an important part of mathematics!
For Example: a(b + c) is ab + ac because the outside number(or variable) can be distributed to all the terms inside the parentheses.
Another Example: 2(x + y) becomes 2x + 2y, no matter what a problem looks like, distributive property always happens when there is a number or variable on the outisde of parenthesis, and terms on the inside of a parentheses.
Another Example: x(a+ z) is xa+xz
Another Example: x(x^2 +2x+5) is x^3 +2x^2 + 5x
Another example: 2x(x +2) becomes 2x^2 +4x
As you can see the same thing keeps happening, the outside number(or variable)((or both)) get multiplied by every term inside a parentheses.
Can have subtraction as well!
Example: 4x(x-y) becomes 4x^2 - 4xy
Hope this helped : )
