Please help I don't get this problem.

Sarah says that 26 ÷ 8 equals 14 ÷ 4 because both are "3 R2." Show her mistake using decimal division.

8 goes 3 times (24) with remainder 2 (or 3 R2)

14 / 4

4 goes 3 times (12) with remainder 2 (or 3 R2).

While the divisor goes 3 times, with 2 remainder, the divisors are different. Hence the former has remainder 2 with divisor 8 (= 2/8 = 1/4 = 0.25) while the latter has remainder 2 with divisor 4 (= 2/4 = 1/2 = 0.5).

So, actually, 26/8 = 3.25 and 14/4 = 3.5 so not the same.

Or, alternatively, make a common denominator and compare: 26 / 8 = 13/4 clearly not the same as 14/4!
