algebra jet word problem

Question

A jet flies at a constant 480 miles per hour for one hour and 15 minutes. There is no wind for the first hour, but it has to fight a 40 miles per hour headwind for the for the last fifteen minutes. How far does it fly ?

480 mph for 1 hour & 15 minutes = 1 1/4 hours

no wind for first hour, but it fights 40 mph wind for last 15 minutes

= 480 + (480-40)(1/4) = 480 -10 = 470 miles
