graph y =3x-1 with a dotted line to indicate the graph does not include the line itself
easiest way to graph the line is plot 2 points such a as the intercepts and connect them with a line
y intercept =-1, x intercept = 1/3
that's the points (0,-1) and (1/3, 0)
draw a straight dotted line through those two points
then check to see if the original satisfies the inequality y > 3x-1
plug in x=0 y=0 0>3(0) -1 0 >-1 so the origin is the side of the dotted line you want to shade in
the shaded area is the graph of the inequality
it goes forever down and to the left. so put arrows pointing down and to the left at the edges of as much as you shade
