[PART I]Intro. to %Yield, Edible Portion (EP), As Purchased (AP) - Dietitian/Food Service Mgt. Problem
INTRODUCTORY PROBLEM:
You purchase 10 lbs. of raw hamburger. When you cook the hamburger the final weight of the hamburger in the pain 8Lbs. hamburger. What percent of the original amount of hamburger remains after cooking?
LESSON BACKGROUND: In this lesson,I introduce the concepts of Edible Portion - (EP), As Purchased (AP), and % Yield. I do this by first presenting a word problem that is similar to a problem students would have likely come across back in high school if not even earlier. I then show how this knowledge can be transferred to solve % yield problems involving EP and AP. Definitions are reviewed and a discussion of how to "translate EP/AP /%yield word problems" into plain language is also discussed. I will likely have a series of follow-up videos related to this concept as well.
