The formula for perimeter of a rectangle is given by p = 2l + 2w, where p = perimeter, l = length, and w = width. solve the formula for w.
Solving for W.
P = 2L + 2W
P - 2L = 2L - 2L + 2W Subtracting 2L from both sides of the equation.
P - 2L = 2W
(P - 2L)/2 = (2W)/2 Dividing both sides of the equation by 2 to isolate the variable W.
(P - 2L)/2 = W
W = (P - 2L)/2
ANSWER: W = (P - 2L)/2
CHECKING:
Pick a rectangle with Length = 10 feet, and Width = 5 feet.
P = 2L + 2W = 20 + 10 = 30 feet
Plugging into W = (P - 2L)/2,
5 = (30 - 20)/2
5 = 10/2
5 = 5
Hope this helps you Nick.
