First, transform your equation m^2=40m-400 into a standard quadratic equation ax^2+bx+c=0.
m^2=40m-400 ⇒ m^2-40m+400=0
If you compare your equation with quadratic equation standard form you have a=1, b=-40 and c=400
Now, use discriminant formula b^2-4ac to determine how many solution and what type they are.
b^2-4ac=(-40)^2-4 •1 •400=1600-1600=0.
Since discriminant is zero your equation has only one real solution.
