maybe try 21+/-9/2 = 25 1/2 and 16 1/2 mph divided by 2?

k = 12.75 mph a = 8.25 mph nope that's not right as k then doesn't = 9 mph more

k + a = 21

k - a = 9

k = 15, a =6

15 mph and 6 mph
