w(-4 + z) = mz + 17
You need to get z by itself on one side of the equation. Start by expanding the parenthesis.
-4w + wz = mz + 17
Add 4w to both sides and get
wz = mz + 17 + 4w
Subtract mz from both sides and get
wz - mz = 17 + 4w
Group the terms on the left and get
(w - m)z = 17 + 4w
Divide both sides by (w - m) and get
z = (17 + 4w) / (w - m)
