A biker’s speed is 1.5 times faster than a walker’s. They started simultaneously from the same point and in 1.5 hours the distance between them was 12.5 miles. What are their speeds if they move in different directions?

Answer 1

v = speed of walker

1.5v = speed of biker

t = travel time (same for both)

d = distance between them at time t

vt + (1.5v)t = d

2.5vt = d

v = d / (2.5t)

t = 1.5 hours

d = 12.5 miles
