Question

(a) if f(3)= 14, find f^-1(14).

f^-1(14)= ?

(b) if f^-1(12)=6, find f(6)

f(6)=??

If f(a) = b, then f^-1(b) = a.

So, since f(3) = 14, f^-1(14) = 3.

Do part b in a similar manner.

The inverse function switches the input and the output of a function. So if f turns a 3 into a 14, then f^-1 turns a 14 into a 3. The inverse does the reverse of the function.

This means f^-1(14) = 3.
