Write the ratio of the length to the width of a picture that is  10 1/2 inches long and 8 3/4  inches wide.

You can solve this problem in more than one way.

As one choice:

First concert the mixed numbers to improper fractions :

10 1 = 21

2 2

8 3 = 35

4 4

Now the ratio will be 21 divided by 35

2 4

This simplifies to a ratio of 6 for the ratio of length to width
