Hi Kasselle. Since there are 13 students for every 1 professor, we can make a fraction 13/14. (13 +1 =14)
We are also looking for the number of total students (x), while we know students plus professors total 28,000. So that fraction is x/28,000.
Set both fractions = to each other. 13/14 = x/28,000. Then cross multiply. We get 13 x 28,000 = 14x. Divide both sides by 14, and we get x = 26,000. This the number of students.
I won’t be able to continue when my schedule fills up. Please consider hiring me as a tutor. Thanks!
