Here are the general steps for multiplying fractions:
1) Multiply the two numerators by each other.
2) Multiply the two denominators by each other.
3) Divide the whole-number product of the two numerators by the whole-number product of the two numerators.
*IF (and only IF) the answer is an improper fraction, convert it into a mixed number by dividing the larger numerator by the smaller denominator. Your final answer will either be a whole number by itself, or a mixed number with a whole number and a fraction.
*If your answer is a fraction with a smaller numerator and a larger denominator, make sure that fraction is reduced into lowest terms/simplest form before you determine your final answer to the given math exercise.
