Breaking an expression into groups.

Question

y^2 - 5y +6

I understand that this would result in factoring of (x-3)(x-2)

My question is how to break this expression into groups and arrive at: (y^2-2y)+(-3y+6) ???

Any help is deeply appreciated.

Note that

-5y = -2y -3y

Therefore,

y² - 5y + 6 = y² - 2y - 3y + 6 = (y² - 2y) + (- 3y + 6)
