The area of a rectangle is length times width.
In this case, A = (x + 5) (x + 6). Using the FOIL (first, outside, inside, last) method, we multiply:
the first term from each set of parentheses: x * x = x^2 (this carrot means x squared)
The two outside terms: x * 6 = 6x
The two inside terms: 5 * x = 5x
The two last terms: 5 * 6 = 30.
Next, we add like terms (terms where x is to the same power). In this case, 6x + 5x = 11x.
Then, we arrange all terms (here, we have x^2, 11x, and 30) so that the terms with x to the highest power come first.
We end with x^2 + 11x + 30.
Hope this helps!
