To determine the size of a single unit, here we need to divide the total by how many unit's there are. So if there are 36 inches, how can we divide into three equal pieces? 36 divided by 3 is 12. To double check our work, we can add 3 pieces together; 12+12+12=36. Therefore, each unit is 12 pieces!
