How many different scores are possible?

In judging a sporting event, there are 3 judges. Each of these judges holds up a number, either a 1 or a 2 or a 3. The sum of these numbers is the athlete's score. How many different scores are possible?

The most a player can get is 9 (if every judge holds up a 3), and the least is 3 (if every judge holds up a 1), and every score in between is possible.

 

That means that 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 are possible, which is 7 different scores.
