First, what are we looking for? Lost games. Let's call that L
Won games let's call W.
We know we won 4 more games than we lost, so W = L + 4
We played 24 games total, so L + W = 24
Since we know W = L + 4, we substitute
L + (L + 4) = 24, then 2L + 4 = 24 and solve algebraically.
2L + 4 - 4 = 24 - 4
2L = 20
2L/2 = 20/2
L = 10
