Let's say x is the gallons of blue paint mixed.
Then 50-x will be the gallons of yellow paint mixed.
The ratio of blue paint to yellow paint is 3/4
The ratio of the number of gallons of blue paint (x) to yellow paint (50-x) will be that same ratio, so we can set up a proportion:
3 x
-- = -----
4 50-x
Cross-multiplying:
4 * x = 3 (50-x)
4*x = 150 - 3*x
7*x = 150
x = 21.43, so 21.43 gallons of of blue paint will be required.
and 50-21.43 = 28.57 gallons of yellow paint will be required.
