What’s the correct equation?

Question

My age is now x. In 2 years my son will be half my age. The sum of our ages now is 50.

what’s the correct equation?

x + 2 + 1/2(x + 2) = 50

x + 2 + 1/2(x + 2) = 54

x + 2 + 1/2x = 50

x + 2 + 1/2x = 54

I am really baffled by this. If someone could show me how to get to the answer of questions like these it would really be a great help. I just look at this and have my head scratching.

son is 16 now

parent is 34 now

in 2 years they'll be 18 and 36

36 = twice 18

p +2 = (2)(s+2), p+s=50, p = 50-s

50-s +2 = 2s + 4

3s = 48

s = 16 yrs old= son's age now

p = 50- 16 =34 = parent's age now
