Portable Graphics Format (.png) is the recommended and widely used format for logo icons in mobile apps. I cannot confirm that .png is a best practice or standard in mobile loco icons, but I would say pretty close. PNG images are usually lightweight (small in file size) and thus faster to transfer and load than other image formats.The small file size also is an advantage in the device's cache and future retrieval.
