The width of a rectangle is 3 ft less than the length. The perimeter is 10 ft. Find the length and width

w = L-3
2L + 2w = 10
2L + 2(L-3) = 10
2L + 2L - 6 = 10
4L - 6 = 10
4L = 16
L=4
so the width is w = L-3 = 4-3=1
