Engages others in interactive experiences to foster learning
Hi! I agree with the calculations previously submitted and would like to focus on a different aspect of the problem. Keep these thoughts in mind then examining the three statements to determine which are true.
- Margot gave 1/10 of her earnings to the animal rescue shelter - [The emphasis of this problem is to see if the student recognizes that 1/10 = 10% (which also = 0.1). Because we know Margot gave 10% of her earnings, she did indeed give 1/10 of her earnings.]
- Margot earned a total of $60 over the summer - [The problem clearly says that $60 is the amount she gave, and $60 is 10% of the amount she earned, so this is statement is not true.]
- Margot earned $60 x $100 - [$60 x $100 = $6,000. 10% of $6,000 = $600, and we know that Margot gave $60, not $600, so this statement is not true.]
I hope this additional information is helpful!
