Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
D = (1/2)N N=2D
D= the number of emails/day David gets, N=number of emails Nicky gets
D+N=148
D+2D = 148
3D =148
D=148/3 = 49 1/3 N= 2D = 2(49 1/3) = 98 2/3 emails
Since you don't get fractional emails, maybe the 1/2 as many as Nicky just meant about 1/2 as many
Then D=49 and N=99 makes the most sense.
But D=49 1/3 and N=98 2/3 would be correct if the D=(1/2)N is an average day, not just one specific day, then the average can be a fraction. Two days out of 3, D=49, N=99 and one day out of 3 days it's D=50, N=98.
