We want to know how many pizzas can each have 1/3 cup of sauce. Imagine drawing pizzas and pouring 1/3 cup on each one until the total sauce runs out. So we need to divide the amount of sauce Sebastian is starting with by 1/3:
First change 1 5/6 to an improper fraction. To do that, multiply the denominator by the whole number and add the numerator:
1 5/6 = 11/6
11/6 ÷ 1/3
Use Keep- Change- Flip.
Keep the first fraction the same, change divide to multiply, and flip the second fraction:
11/6 x 3/1
11 x 3 = 33
6 x 1 = 6
33/6
Change that back to a mixed number using long division:
33/6 = 5 3/6 = 5 1/2
So Sebastian can make 5 whole pizzas.
