The device that used to determine atomic weights is called mass spectrometer. A graph of detected signal intensity versus atomic mass that provided by this device after the testing is called mass spectrum. People analyze mass spectrum to know the atomic mass and the abundance of each isotope, and then calculate the atomic weight of an element.
