A container holds 45 ounces of water if 18 ounces are spilled what percent of the water remains in the container

If you spill 18 ounces, then to figure out what is left in the glass, subtract 18 from 45 and 45 - 18 = 27 so there are 27 ounces left. But we are asked what percentage is left instead of the amount. The percentage is the amount left divided by the total or 27/45 which is 0.60. This is the decimal portion left; to turn this into a percentage we either multiply by 100 or move the decimal point to the right two places. That means the percentage left is 60%

27 out of 45 can be written as a percent as follows:

27/45 = 3/5

3/5 * 20/20 = 60/100

60/100 is equivalent to 60%.

Therefore, 60% of the water is still in the container.
