Let E=the eight ounce candles T=ten ounce candles

6E+8T=156 10E+2T=124

Divide both by two on both sides of the equations

3E+4T=78 5E+T=62, T=62-5E substitute into the 1st equation

3E+4(62-5E) = 78

3E+248-20E=78

-17E=78-248=-170

E=-170/-17 =10 E=10

T=62-5(10)=12
