Question

Two trucks head toward each other from opposite ends of a freeway 402 kilometers long. If the speed of the first truck is 68 kilometers per hour and the speed of the second truck is 66 kilometers per hour, how long will it take before the trucks pass each other?

OK, so Jess in Spokane and Sandra in Pasco are driving towards each other. :-)

 

They start 402 km apart, and with each hour, Jess gets 68 km closer to the meeting point and Sandra gets 66 km closer to the meeting point. Combined, they get 134 km closer each hour.

 

So to close the entire 402 km gap between them, they have to drive 402 km divided by 134 km/hr to get the number of hours.

 

402 divided by 134 =...

 

3 hours.
