A cash register contains only five dollar and ten dollar bills. It contains twice as many five's as ten's and the total amount of money in the cash register is 620 dollars. How many ten's are in the cash register?

Hi Sandra--
You know that a 10 is worth twice as much as a five, so if there are twice as many 5's as 10's, they turn out to be worth the same amount. Isn't that handy!
Which means that our 620 can be cut in half into 310 dollars worth of 10's and 310 dollars worth of 5's.
310 divided by 10 = ...
31 ten-dollar bills, which means 62 5-dollar bills make up the the 310 dollars.
