help needed. Math question

what is 35% of 40

Paige N.

Change the % into a decimal (shift decimal to the left two place values) and then multiply. 0.35x40 = 14

That is 100% the answer so there must be a mistake. Are you doing something online? Sometimes there can be errors with online math programs.

I double-checked. The answer is 14. Another way to think about it is 10% of 40 is 4 (10x 4 = 40) You can add 4 three times 4+4+4 =12. Then the 5 in 35 means half of 10%, or 2. 12+2= 14. (This is how I figure out how much to tip the pizza delivery guy!)
