To determine the percent of a number, you can multiply the percent written in decimal form by the number itself. The decimal form of a number shows it in hundredths which is the same as that represented by percent numbers. For example, 23% is equal to 23/100 or 0.23
For this question , we can write 35% as 0.35
Then multiply 0.35 by 40 :
0.35 * 40 = 14
So 35% of 40 is 14
