Hi there Chloe!
This is ultimately a test of how well you know your times tables up until 12 times 12. If you've memorized them, you can think of different ways to multiply up to both 48 and 56.
Notice the pattern I take when considering the different multiples of 48 or 56: I start out with two because both numbers are even, and then I multiply the smaller multiplication factor by two while dividing the other factor by two.
48, for instance, is 2 times 24, 4 times 12, 8 times 6, and 16 times 3!
We stop here because 3 is a prime number, which means that it is only divisible by the number one or itself.
56, on the other hand, is 2 times 28, 4 times 14, and 8 times 7!
We stop here because 7 is also a prime number.
We can see that the greatest common factor between 48 and 56 is 8. This is what you want to "take out" of the expression 48c+56.
To find out what you need to "leave behind" in the parenthesis, divide 48 and 56 by 8. The answer is already written above (see underlined portions) when you considered the different ways of multiplying to each number!
Therefore, you write your answer as the following: 8(6c+7)
Hope this helps!
