When I play the guitar and try to add the "snare", I can't play a note and hit the "snare" at the same time. Any tips on how to improve my playing?

Whenever I play the "snare" I stop all playing and hit the snare, and then I continue on playing.

A string cannot be percussive and sound a note at the same time. But there are more than one string on the guitar. If you watch Sungha Jung he is using his thumb on the 6 or 5 string while letting the other strings ring out. Make sure you keep your fretting hand in place in order to let the other notes ring out. You might want to practice something slow and easy in order to make sure you are slapping ONLY the 6 and 5 strings while letting the others ring. I hope that helps.

It all depends on where you making the "snare" sound.

What style of music?

Is the "snare" on 2 and 4, or 1 and 3?

If you are doing a "string slap" you can get a note or chord out at the same time.
