f(x) = sqrt(x+7) + 5 <--- you say the 7 is under the square root but the 5 is not
f(x+a) = sqrt( x+7+a) + 5
subtracting f(x) just cancels the 5
sqrt(x+7+a) - sqrt(x+7)
