If 3 hexagons equals one whole, that means each hexagon is worth 1/3 (one out of three parts).
Since a trapezoid is half of a hexagon, then it would be worth half of 1/3, which is 1/6. (Imagine if all three hexagons were broken into trapezoids, one of those trapezoids would be one part out of all six.)
Since a rhombus is a third of a hexagon, then it would be worth a third of 1/3, which is 1/9. (Imagine if all three hexagons were broken into rhombuses, one of those rhombuses would be one part out of 9.)
Now you know that the trapezoid=1/6 and the rhombus=1/9. You'll need common denominators, or common sized pieces, to add them together so the trapezoid can equal 3/18 and the rhombus can equal 2/18. That means the trapezoid+rhombus=5/18.
