x + 10 +1/5 = 3/10 Let x = a number
x +10 + 2/10 = 3/10 I changed 1/5 to tenths by multiplying by 2/2
x = -10 1/10 subtract 10 2/10 from both sides
To prove it go back to the original equation and substitute -10 1/10 for x and solve:
-10 1/10 + 10 2/10 = 3/10 add -10 to +10 and get 0 add 1/10 to 2/10 and get 3/10
3/10 = 3/10
