Let b be the number of bikes. Let t be the number of tricycles.
We know that a bicycle has 2 wheels and a tricycle has 3 wheels. So,
2b + 3t = 40
We also know that there are 8 bikes, So,
2 (8) + 3t = 40
16 + 3t = 40 . subtract 16 from both sides
3t = 24 . divide by 3 both sides to isolate the t
t = 8
There are 8 tricycles.
