Parse the sentence to write the equation. The first clue is the word "is". That means equal.
So, the sentence looks like this:
Six times a number = 45 greater than the product of the number -3
Next, assign a variable to "number"---let's use X
Six times X = 45 greater than the product X times -3 <<note I made an assumptions that it's supposed to be times>>
Simplify:
6*X = X*(-3) + 45
Collect the X terms on the left and then solve for X
