IF the system of equations when written correctly is:
3y = 2x - 6
x + y = 8
then your result of y = 2 is correct. In this case, x could not be equal to 8.
Since x + y = 8, and y = 2: then substitute 2 for y in the previous equation:
x + 2 = 8 x = 8 - 2 x = 6
So, the two lines intersect at (6,2).
It looks as if you actually solved the problem, but just made one error. Trust your Math skills. Go back and substitute your answers into one or both equations to check if the left side of the equations equal the right side of the equations. If so, your answer is correct :)
