Use the slope point formula
slope = m = -2
The slope is the rise over the run or (y-1)/x--3). The difference of any 2 y values divided by the corresponding 2 x values = the slope
(y-1)/(x+3)=-2
simplify
y-1 = -2((x+3) = -2x -6
add one to both sides
This gives the equation
y= -2x-5 Coefficient of x is the slope = -2. constant term is the y-intercept: -5
check the answer, plug the point x=-3 y=1 into the equation y=-2x-5
1=-2(-3)-5 = 6-5 = 1
