By definition, a box has six rectangular faces, so I do not know why you are referring to prism formulas. As your question reads, you have three identical boxes that measure 18" x 9" x 48". If you stack three of these, then you end up with a very large "box" that is 18" x 9" x 192". The surface area of the very large "box" is:
2(18*9) + 2(18*192) + 2(9*192) = 324 + 6912 + 3456 = 10,692 in2
