If x is the width, then we’re told that the length is 2x + 3.
The area of a rectangle is width times length, so we have
35 = x * (2x + 3)
35 = 2x2 + 3x
0 = 2x2 + 3x - 35
0 = (2x - 7)(x + 5)
Since a width cannot be negative, the only solution that works is x = 7/2 or 3.5 meters, which means that the length is 2 * 3.5 + 3 = 10.
Answer: 3.5 by 10 meters.
