If p is an unknown constant, what binomial must be a factor of 3x² + 12x - px- 4p?

I need the steps & answer please!

Examine the first two terms and identify what can be factored out: 3x.

At the same time, factor the unknown "p" from the last two terms

 

The polynomial becomes:

3x(x+4) + p (-x-4)

3x(x+4) - p (x+4)

(3x-p)(x+4)

 

The two factors are therefore 3x-p and x+4.
