Typically fonts are measured in points (pt), which is a measurement system used in typography for letter sizes, line spacing, etc. You can find rulers with point/pica measures on them (There are 12 points in a pica). If you use points regularly, you might find it useful. If you want to do some math for this situation, 1 point = 1/72 inch or 0.3528mm.

Not sure what program you are using. Illustrator is great for the kind of issue that you are talking about. Many times I have just placed the image and then on a new layer, added text. I can then see both and tweak the size of the text to my needs. As for your question of pixels, and what that means, Pixels are just the number of small dots that make up an image. For example, at image that is 72 Pixels will be much smaller in size and much harder to enlarge than say an image that is 300 Pixels. In typography, a point is a tiny measurement that is the standard for measuring font size. There are approximately 72 points in 1 inch. So, 36 points is the equivalent of a half inch or so. All of this being said, try and have your photo in one layer. Then size your type to fit and put it in a totally separate layer.07/30/19
