Guidelines for piano composition and transcription?

I'm a classical guitar student but I always loved the piano. Though I never owned one, most of my musical ideas come to me as harmonies on the keyboard so I often have to translate that into something playable on the guitar or the way around (when I compose with music software).Which would be the main guidelines one should follow when 1. arranging piano music for the guitar 2. arranging guitar music for the piano

The field of making a musical transcription is an important task for any musician, one that takes many variables into account, and one that each musician is liable to approach in a different way, depending on his or her interests, the elements that are of the most interest, whether the desired transcription is to be "photographic-like" that almost like a photograph of the original, or whether some other result is desired. If you think in "keyboard terms" and that makes sense to you, that sounds great, need not matter if your ultimate instrument is to be guitar or that you might not have a piano handy to try it out on.

Good question but both are fine. Music is a language so we all default to the languge we are most comfortable with. Most people compose or hear with their main instrument, so for example it is normal for a piano player learning guitar to visualize the piano while learning guitar parts and vice versa.
