? generally each interval should be the same width, although not always required. For example, GPA is a continuous variable. Do a histogram of students' grades. Make the intervals 90-100, 80 -89, 70-79, 60-69 and 0 to 59 for A, B, C, D, and F. Ideally each should be the same width, but F is 6 times the width of other grades and A is one unit longer than B, C or D. The A+ or 100, makes the A interval slightly wider.
frequency, of each variable in each interval. 10 students, the height of the bar in each interval might be 3 A's, 4 B's, 2 C's and 1 F. The height of the bars would be proportional to 3-4-2-1 ratios.
