Jesse E's approach is correct.
Density is mass per volume.
You first convert the mass to grams.
However, the volume converted was not 1 L (or 1 cc). 4.35 lbm occupies 1.559 L, not 1.0 L.
As such, you would have:
4.35 lbm * 453.6 g * 1.0 L = 1.266 g
1.559 L 1 lbm 1000 cc cc
